veil of light is the synth/postpunk solo project of a mystery man from zurich known to the wider world only as m. the project was born in 2012 when all the tracks for the veil of light eponymous 2013 ep released on belaten were recorded by m in a bunker near zurich. that last fact incidentally is a good way to describe the music released under this project’s name much like the mental image of a bunker it is cold dark and forces one into a contemplative resigned state. the influences that immediately come to mind listening to veil of light are 1980’s wave music post punk industrial and dark ambient all weaved together by an overarching depressive yet dreamy atmosphere. it has been called gothgaze and the description seems apt. the followup to the opener the 7” cold skin single released on edition gris and the debut lp simply titled as well as this years head/blood/chest ep continue in the same vein.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

chicagos peven everett has long had a cult following for his own unique, live take on house music. fusing the finest elements of gospel, soul, funk and disco his tracks have always had something that most other producers lack originality! his music has crossed over many different genre barriers and has been supported by the widest selection of top dj s for many years with his cuts becoming stone cold anthems in clubs across the globe. i cant believe i loved her is one such track, a soulful piece lamenting a love that went wrong, the pain and disappointment are evident in peven s voice and playing but the track remains utterly danceable, a real bomb! on it s original 2002 release the track was a huge club hit, pushing it into classic status. both original mixes are featured here on this legit reissue, 100% sanctioned by king street records, nyc. brought back for 2016, an evergreen deep house classic essential business!

he s not what you d call a prolific producer but the old saying of quality over quantity couldnt ring truer for marcellis. with just 3 releases in the last 12 years starting with a single on 2004, followed by an ep on workshop and then his album on millions of moments, any new work is highly anticipated. its been a long time coming for nonplus but every bit worth the wait. 3 tracks covering a range of styles from the ice cold analogue quirkiness of sleep, to the bumping 4/4 offering of indigo skyfold through to the jazzed out chugger can they do tha (g love real raw) its an honour to have marcellis as an addition to the catalogue.

sometimes great records need time to grow… it took a while to finally present john talabot s fantastic versions of the already stone cold classic from sfire.

jesus was black goes to chile thanks to the new vinyl release by the hand of producer andre butano & felipe. push cat ep, the artists first release for the label, is a refreshing fusion of the organic beats and the avant-garde music. the title track brings on an underground micro house essence with a thick bass rhythm and crazy voices. the ep features two cold remixes from the spanish talent jairo catelo (darkroom dubs, plastic city) with his bubbling synths and house rhythms making a master deep piece. jorge savoretti (viva music, little helpers) make it with hypnotic broken beats and maintains the deep feel that brought him to jesus was black. closing the ep we can find an awesome original track like -rework- with vinyl popping accents and a couple of vocal hooks, a track to make everyone sweat on the dance floor.

nice price deal !!! eclier (siberia) proudly represents the new cold wave from the east: electro break, robotic vocals and spacey pop synths: all together this siberian chemistry is a hot hymn to the dancefloor. after the release in july of >the hole< ep (ref. mako004), supported by mr oizo, das glow, mixhell, zombie nation, autodidakt, etc., eclier is coming back in october for his new « the future is now » ep. with new bombs for the dancefloor, on the productive label boxon records. if ecliers first album took you on an amazing trip, this new project with more rhythm will take you directly to exploding parties. girls, the word is dancing. after a few remixes for some artists of the label boxon records and an ep on proxys label, we were right to expect a true hurricane. no options left, its gonna come. with intros very much turned to an atmosphere close to b.o. s.f. and a new wave touch, nikita, who comes from the great siberian cold, adds an electro touch to choruses that just make the ice melt. a perfect example to be found on >rockfall<, heritage of digitalism. the saturated melodies are bloody efficient and the beats powerful. away from a lament or a lullaby, eclier earned his stripes, and took vitamins. we definitely find this craving energy on >spider< that ends this three-track record. eclier has everything of big man now: tom deluxxs enthusiasm and the combined new wave touch of the cut copy. he gets closer to proxys ingenuousness. >the future is now< (text by céline fula, october 2010 – traduced by cécile guidon)
